Estimated cost for a 3 night kid free trip to Punta Cana

We wanted to share what a trip for two to Punta Cana would most likely cost if someone had zero credit card points.  We will be taking this trip later in the month and upon returning we will share how much money using points saved us.  Here is a breakdown of estimated cash costs:

Flights:  Delta comfort to PUJ and Southwest back to CMH.  We chose Delta because they were the only airline to have a late afternoon flight.  It was a big plus that Delta Comfort seats were available since they come with more leg room and free drinks!

Total flight costs: $1200

Hotel:
After some google research and a few hours on TripAdvisor we decided on Excellence Punta Cana adults only.   $400 per night for swim up suite.

For a total of $1200

During this search we had a dilemma-should we splurge for the top tier hotel at $600 a night or go for a lower $400 per night.  We haven’t taken a child free Caribbean vacation since Lincoln was born over 4 years ago so our first thought was to live it up and go for top notch.   However after some discussion we decided to go mid tier and save the points or money for another family vacation we plan to take in the fall to the Bahamas.

Other costs:
Transfers to and from the airport: $100

Spa appointments at the hotel: $300

Tips: $100

Meals and drinks-$0 since it’s an all inclusive hotel.

Estimated total:

$2900  before any points

When we get back we will post what the trip actually cost us after using points for portions of the trip.

I know a lot of you have done trips similar to this.  How much did your trip cost?
