Booking a last minute trip to Jamaica
A
work trip of mine got canceled just recently. Originally I planned to
have Kim come meet me for a kid free, long weekend in Californian wine
country. Since the babysitting was already planned for we decided to
book something else - a trip to the Caribbean. Our current points
holdings and preference for an adults only, all inclusive resort left us
with only a couple options:
- Hyatt Zilara Cancun
- Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall Jamaica.
Hyatt Zilara Cancun was not available to book with points for our planned weekend so that left us with Jamaica.

Hotel booking:

We
had roughly 72k Hyatt points so I added a few more thousand via the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal to get us
to 75k which covers 3 nights in a double occupancy room.
Total hotel cost: 75k Hyatt points and $0.
Flights:
We
of course booked southwest flights since we have the companion pass.
Booking this late has its disadvantages, mainly higher flight costs. I
had to fork out 32k points and $286 in fees to book the 2 flights.
Luckily I had a $100 voucher for Southwest resulting from a mechanical
delay on a recent Southwest flight.
Total Flight cost: 32k Southwest points and $186.
Transportation & Parking:
We park in the cheap airport lot for $7 a day and the Hotel offers a shuttle for $33 round trip per person.
Total transportation & Parking: $94
Total cost including points:
32k Southwest points, 75k Hyatt points, and $280
Without points this trip would have cost $1200 (flights) $1400 (hotel) $94 (transportation)
=$2694!!!
