Kim and I have both carried this card in our wallets in the
past. Kim signed up for this card twice
– once in 2013 and again in 2016. I
signed up for this card in late 2014.
The card I’m talking about is the Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card
(I do not receive any benefit for sharing this link). This card comes with a 50,000 point bonus
after you spend $4,000 on the card in the first 3 months from account opening. The card has a $95 annual fee but is waived
the first year.
50,000 points can be redeemed for $625 worth of travel via
the Chase Travel Portal. You can search
the portal similar to most travel websites such as Travelocity, Orbitz, and
Priceline. Simply put in destination and
dates and your options will populate.

You can also transfer these points to Hotel and Airline loyalty accounts
as I mentioned in this post.

Chase allows you to sign up and receive card bonuses if you
have not received the bonus for that exact branded card in the past 24
months. So technically someone could
apply and get a new bonus every two years.
However, I’m not sure the banks would continue to approve someone that
continually took advantage of the 24 month rule. Both of us have since closed these Chase
Sapphire Preferred credit cards. Chase
also has a rule 5/24 rule. If you have opened
5 credit cards in the past 24 months Chase may not approve your card
application.
$4000 may seem like a lot of money but everyday expenses add
up. We try and put everything we can on
our cards. Here is a small list of
things we put on our credit cards that some people may pay via debit or check:
1.
Insurance payments – Home & Auto (You may be
able to pay annual cost in one payment)
2.
Pre School tuition
3.
Gym dues
4.
Home Utilities - Internet, security service
5.
Car down payments
